The reason people are more inclined towards fiction is because it is so seamlessly perfect, full of good surprises, and happy endings. There is one fictional television series which may not have happy endings and good surprises, but it sure is perfect to the bone – Game of Thrones.
Apart from the war ground, blood, and dragons, the show has won millions of hearts across the globe with its characters, dialogues, locations, cinematography, and storyline. It’s been 6 years now when season one was premiered and there are a lot of take away lessons one can implement on his life.
Tomorrow Never Comes
You may not know what might happen to you in a blink of an eye and tomorrow, my friend, is far away. Peter Baelish, little finger, rightly said, “Everybody dies sooner or later. And don’t worry about your death. Worry about your life. Take charge of your life for as long as it lasts.”
Learn to Say No
Had Ned Stark said no to the King, he would not have gone to the King’s Landing and his head would be at its right place. Learn to say no even if it involves breaking someone’s heart. At the end of the day, it is for your own good.
Never Doubt Your Own Abilities
“A very small man can cast a very large shadow”- was said by Lord Varys when he describes Tyrion Lannister, the Imp. No matter what the circumstances bring at your doorstep, never doubt your own abilities. Stay strong, hold your ground, face the challenge and turn it into an opportunity.
Pets Can Be Great Companions
Having a pet means you have someone by your side who will always love and protect you without demanding anything in return. Khaleesi has the dragons and Starks have the wolves. We all know how well their chemistry goes in the show.
Don’t Trust Everyone
There have been many instances in Games of Thrones which proved trusting anyone could cost you a fortune, be it John Snow trusting his fellow night watch or Stannis Baratheon lending his trust in Melisandra (The Red Woman). Be very careful about whom you trust with your ambitions and dreams. You never know who might turn out to be a white walker in the skin of a knight.
A Lot Can Happen Beyond The Wall
When John Snow & Sam walked past the wall, they witnessed the Great White Walkers and Wildings. If you want to learn something new in life, come out of your comfort zone and try it. Living inside a bubble will not lead you anywhere unless you are a gum. Remember how they say, nothing enchanting happens behind the four walls?
It Is Not Important to Know Everything
Half knowledge is dangerous but too much knowledge does no good either. It is okay if you are a little naïve and do not know everything. Let the course of learning take its own pace.
Keep Your Enemies Close Not Closer
A very profound adage adds to it – keep your friends close and enemies closer. It is not completely practical you see. You cannot risk your enemies knowing all your actions and plans for the future. It is like being a friend to a snake and then whining about getting bitten.
The Man In Power May Not Be The Man of Words
With great power comes great responsibility and it is not certain that man in power would always fulfil his promises. Joffrey Lannister, High Septon, and Ramsay Bolton, they are all in power and didn’t meet their words. You know how their stories end.
The journey of your life is short. What you achieve, learn, and unlearn is what you make of it. Take the baton and lead your life into a direction which could become a path for others to follow. Your time is limited because all men must die.
