Satpura National Park

Famous as a tiger reserve, the Satpura National Park is the winner of the TOFT Wildlife Tourism Award for being the most tourist-oriented wildlife sanctuary in year 2010. The sanctuary is located in the Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh and covers an area of 202 square miles. The Satpura National Park along with Bori and Pachmarhi sanctuaries offer about 550 square miles of tiger reserve area. Fauna such as Indian Bison (Gaur), spotted Dear, Tigers, Sloth bear, Blackbuck etc can be sighted at the park. Flora such as mahua, bamboo, Sal, teak, Tendu etc grow in the forests of the sanctuary. Migratory birds  can also be sighted at the national park between November to march.

Christ Church

Jata Shankar caves

Folklore has it that it was in Jata Shankar caves that Lord Shiva sought refuge to save himself from the fury of Bhasmasur. There is a natural formation of a shivalingam in the shadow of a big rock. This stone formation resembles Sheshnag,  the hundred headed snake famed mythological reptile. The caves’ rock formation resembles Lord Shiva’s matted hair and hence the name Jata Shankar.
