Airbnb recently announced that it is teaming up with 23andMe. It is a biotech firm famous for extracting personalized genomics reports about family history and health. Soon, 23andMe users will be able to click through their ancestral population and find Airbnb experiences and homes in their ancestral countries. Airbnb now has dedicated pages for 23andMe’s genetic population in Sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa, West Asia, Central America, Mexico, South America, East & South Asia, the Caribbean, and Europe.
23andMe CEO and co-founder Anne Wojcicki said “We empower 23andMe customers to learn about themselves and their ancestry through their unique genetic code. Working with Airbnb, a leader who is reimagining travel provides an exciting opportunity for our customers to connect with their heritage through deeply personal cultural and travel experiences.” According to Airbnb, the number of people using booking platforms to trace their roots has grown by 500% in the past five years. Heritage travel also landed on Lonely Planet’s Top Travel Trends for 2019. Hence, creating a lucrative partnership for both companies.
