Alibaba's Taobao and Alipay Begin Offering Group Buying Service to Rival Pinduoduo

Taobao, Alibaba’s e-commerce platform has collaborated with Alipay, Alibaba’s third-party platform to compete with bulk buying service provider, Pinduoduo to provide consumers with goods at wholesale prices.

Alipay’s website now features a new tab for ‘group purchases’ through which users can search for niche product categories that other users have ordered before and avail 50 percent discount by joining the group.

China’s e-commerce scene is seeing a surge in bulk buying services after Pinduoduo raised USD 1.6 billion in its Nasdaq debut dated July 26.

Alipay and Taobao have 550 million and over 430 million monthly active users respectively that offers easy ways to promote new e-commerce services.
