  • Cyproheptadine is a potent antihistamine or antagonist of the HA-receptor.
  • Cyproheptadine competes with free histamine for binding at HA-receptor sites which antagonizes the effects of histamine on HA-receptors, leading to a reduction of the negative symptoms brought on by histamine HA-receptor binding.
  • This drug also competes with serotonin at receptor sites in smooth muscle in the intestines and other locations.

How to take Cyproheptadine?

  • Cyproheptadine is administered orally in the form of tablet or syrup, 2 or 3 times a day.
  • Measure the dose while taking liquid form, using a special measuring device or spoon.

  • Recommended initial dose is 4 mg orally three times a day.
