How to take Diamox?

  • Diamox is administered orally in the form of tablet, usually 1 to 4 times daily.
  • Swallow the long-acting capsules and not break, or chew the capsules.

Common dosage of Diamox

  • The dose ranges from 250 mg to 1 g of Diamox for 24 hours.
  • For diuresis, adult dosage is 250-375 mg per day.
  • For glaucoma and epilepsy, dose is 250-1000 mg per day.
  • For prophylaxis of high altitude sickness, dose range is 500-1000 mg/ per day.

When to avoid Diamox & Precautions to take?

  • Avoid using Diamox if you are allergic to it or any other inactive ingredients present along with it.
  • Diamox is not recommended for use in patients suffering from a severe impairment of liver function or kidney function, chronic non-congestive angle-closure glaucoma and Addison’s disease.
  • Patients with altered levels of sodium/potassium/chlorine ions should not receive this medicine.
  • Caution is advised in patients with bone marrow depression or blood dsyscrasias, liver or kidney problems, respiratory acidosis, diabetes mellitus and gout.
  • Diamox is not recommended for use in children less than 12 years of age.
  • Elderly patients need to be monitored closely while receiving this medicine.
  • This medicine may cause muscle weakness, drowsiness, dizziness, visual disturbances, thus driving or performing any activity which require mental alertness is not recommended.
