Google Trends Reveals The Most Searched Terms on Google India for 2016

Google Trends, the one-stop destination for everything trending around the world has released data on the most searched terms for 2016.

And…going by the revelation, we are in for an interesting ride.

The most searched term for 2016 was ‘Rio Olympics’, the once in a four-year spectacle which was the biggest sporting event of the year. Pokémon GO and EURO 2016 occupy positions 2 and 3 in the list of most searched terms.

However, instead of making the list only about search terms, Google Trends has given information on the most popular News, People, Bollywood Actor (Male and Female), and Movies. This amazing compilation gives an insight into who and what were the most famous in 2016.

1. News

Rio Olympics 2016

Rio 2016 Olympics was the biggest news search of 2016. This was followed by U.S. Elections, Brexit, 7th Pay Commission, and Auto Expo 2016. The huge ‘demonetization’ decision by the Indian Government also had the most impact and hence made it to No.7 among top news searches in 2016.

2. People

Donald Trump

No one saw it coming, except for himself. Donald Trump, the 45th President-elect of the United States of America was the most popular person to be searched on Google India. He was followed by India’s Badminton sensation, P.V. Sindhu who won a historic silver medal at the Rio Olympics 2016. Surprisingly, the third most searched person is someone who is truly unknown, yet has managed to make the list.

Sonam Gupta Bewafa

Sonam Gupta, popularly known for the Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai (Sonam Gupta is Unfaithful) trolls on the internet was the third most popular name to be searched on Google India. It’s kind of strange but still LOL 😀

3. Movies

Salman Khan Sultan

Salman Khan walked away as the winner with Sultan which was the most widely searched term among movies in Google India for 2016. Rajinikanth’s Kabali was a close second and the controversial Udta Punjab made it to number three on the list.

4. Bollywood Actor (Male)

Sushant Singh Rajput MS Dhoni

The lead actor from the movie, M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story, Sushant Singh Rajput was the most searched Bollywood male actor. The young actor hit a massive six with his role portraying the captain of Indian ODI and T20 Cricket team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Next in line were popular television actor, Kabir Bedi and Anil Kapoor’s son, Harshvardhan Kapoor. Also on the list are Salman Khan (5) and Ranveer Singh (9).

5. Bollywood Actor (Female)

Urvashi Rautela

Disha Patani was the most searched Bollywood actress on Google India for 2016. The actress was renowned for portraying Priyanka Jha, ex-girlfriend of Indian cricketer M.S. Dhoni in his biopic. Following Disha were two more new faces in Bollywood, Urvashi Rautela, and Pooja Hedge.
