Waking up with a throbbing headache and a super dry mouth almost makes partying all night not worth it. Realising you need to clock-in at work in 15 minutes adds to the misery. Unless you have a super cool boss who’ll let you work from home or groggily walk in at 11, you’re gonna need these remedies.
Gulp Down Some H2O
The dry mouth and overall crappy feeling has to do with the fact that alcohol is a diuretic and rids your body of water. Battle dehydration and drink as much water as you can as soon as you wake up. At work, keeping a bottle handy is a good idea. A better idea – drink a glass of water between each glass of beer and you could avoid a hangover altogether.
Go On A Ginger Binge
I know it sounds gross, but nibbling on a piece of ginger will rid you of your nausea. It accelerates the process of alcohol digestions and will soothe your stomach. If you do not want to eat a piece, incorporate it into a cup of tea and drink up.
Try Some Peppermint
Peppermint has a number of health benefits and one of them is that it is a carminative. Simply put, it removes gas from the intestines. You won’t feel bloated and the peppermint fragrance will relax your mind. You can grow your own herbs for the freshest leaves or buy packaged peppermint tea.
Don’t Miss Out On Your Morning Cuppa
The frothy and delicious (and free!) cups of latte and cappuccino will make you feel awake and alert. The caffeine will also reduce your headache and looking at your laptop won’t feel like a punishment anymore. But don’t overdo it because caffeine too is a diuretic and might aggravate your symptoms. Just a cup or two throughout the day will do.
Bring On The Bananas
Replenish the potassium and electrolytes that you lost with a couple of bananas. After eating two in the morning, follow up with banana milkshakes throughout the day. These will also make your stomach feel less messed up and make you feel more energetic.
