How To Make Hand Sanitizers At Home – Step By Step Guide

The Coronavirus pandemic has caused a huge stir in the medical market and it has become harder to find sanitizers in the markets. While the situation is worthy of concern, one does not need to panic. Most of the germs, including novel coronavirus (COVID-19), on your hands can be dealt with a hand sanitizer that meets the required alcohol volume.

While hand sanitizers are a good alternative, washing your hands with soap at regular intervals is more effective. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), you should wash your hands for 20 seconds if you’ve been to a public place, as soaps are effective against all kinds of germs. If you do not have access to a sink to wash hands with soap, then it is advisable to carry a hand sanitizer that has at least 60% alcohol. With high demands for hand sanitizers, it is obvious that one would face shortage of some. In that case you can easily prepare sanitizer at home for yourself. Here you can also check some of the best hand sanitizers in India.

Preparation of Home-Made Hand Sanitizer

Here is how you can easily make a hand sanitizer at home with the most simplest ingredients and recipe:

Home made sanitizer

Step 1: Mix Isopropyl alcohol and Aloe Vera Gel in a Bowl

Pour 2/3 cup of isopropyl alcohol and 1/3 cup of aloe vera gel into a bowl. Hand sanitizers should have at least 60% alcoholic volume to be effective; you should add isopropyl alcohol and aloe vera gel in such a proportion that they form a 2:1 ratio.

Step 2: Add Essential Oils to the Mixture

Add the essential oils or lemon juice to the mix if you need to. Essential oils are merely meant to add fragrance to the mix, so go ahead and add some to the sanitizer if you prefer a particular smell.

Step 3: Mix the Ingredients & Pour into a Plastic Bottle

Mix all the ingredients together in the bowl using a spoon and pour them into bottles that can be easily carried in pockets. And you’re good to go.

Note: Isopropyl alcohol is a dangerous and highly flammable liquid which can cause burns on your skin if it comes in direct contact with your hands. We recommend using rubber gloves as a precaution to avoid any such circumstances.
