On May 17th, after an exhausting three-months of lockdown, things finally eased a little with many relaxations being implemented in “Lockdown 4.0”. The biggest one being able to order in red zones as well!
While stepping out is nowhere in question right now, yet we can resume the joy of shopping and ordering food online. Our favourite E-commerce websites are now back on track and resuming their operations in orange, green, and red zones excluding containment zones.
While E-Commerce is back in operations, our hearts still linger with the question “Is online delivery safe during COVID -19?”.
How E-commerce Websites Are Ensuring Customer Safety?
Some e-commerce websites, especially those in the food delivery industry, like Zomato, Grofers, Big Basket, Swiggy, etc. had been running their operations since the beginning of lockdown. After the relaxations offered in Lockdown 4.0 for delivery of non-essential items, e-retailers like Myntra, Amazon, Flipkart, Ajio and more have started their online deliveries.
While customer satisfaction has been a top priority for all these websites, in these times customer safety has taken an equal priority.
Here are the things e-commerce giants are doing to make sure your products are delivered with 100% safety:
Contact Less Delivery
E-retailers have instructed their delivery agents to wear masks and drop packages at customer’s doorsteps. The delivery agents are asked to step back to maintain a minimum 2-meter distance from customers and have also scrapped the procedure of customer’s signatures upon delivery. Customers are also advised to make online payments to cut off the risk of infection being spread through currency notes.
E-commerce websites like Myntra, Ajio, Amazon, Flipkart, etc. have made it mandatory for all delivery bags, vehicles, and devices to be sanitized at the start and end of each route. Swiggy and Zomato have instructed their restaurant partners to wear masks and gloves while packaging food along with sanitizing it before dispatching.
Myntra, Amazon, Flipkart and others have instructed their fulfilment centres to be sanitized regularly. All workers have been instructed to wash hands after every 1 hour. Food delivery giants like Zomato and Swiggy have instructed their restaurant partners to prepare food with proper safety measures, following which they are cleaning frequently touched surfaces at regular intervals of time.
All e-commerce websites are ensuring a temperature and health check of employees at the beginning and end of each day. If any employee shows any symptom they are instantly asked to get themselves tested. Licious, a meat & seafood delivery website has taken measures to get its personnel vaccinated every 6 months along with doing routine health check-ups.
Educating Employees & Delivery Partners
E-commerce websites have never shielded away from being progressive, and so is the case in the era of Covid-19. They are continuously educating their delivery agents and employees about the benefits of hand sanitization, regular cleaning, and social distancing, and how this can be a make or break factor for their and customer’s health.
Use of Aarogya Setu App
Some e-commerce vendors like Zomato and Swiggy have made it mandatory for their delivery agents to install Aarogya Setu App in their phones. This way, they can assess the risk of delivering items to an unsafe zone. And to make sure that they are taking extra precautions when delivering in a High Alert Area.
So, we can say that online delivery is safe during COVID-19 as E-commerce is following all-important sanitization measures. But here are a few things that we must do while shopping online:
In the coming days, with new lockdown relaxations in market areas, stepping out to shop will again become an option. Still, E-commerce websites can easily have the upper hand in terms of safety from COVID-19 with all these measures in place.
According to a survey conducted by CashKaro.com – India’s No.1 Cashback & Coupons site, with over 8000 respondents, here is what shoppers are thinking about online shopping during Covid-19.
According to the data, we can say that online shopping is considered to be safer than going out in the markets. So, if an online delivery website is following all the above-stated measures correctly, then they can be considered safe.
