McDonald’s is on a unique green initiative and has started recycling several tonnes of used cooking oil from its restaurants into biodiesel fuel to power the company’s fleet of refrigerated delivery trucks. McDonald’s has contracted HRPL to convert 35 tonnes of used cooking oil every month into biodiesel fuel for 25 delivery trucks. This campaign results in 420,000 litres of crude oil annually. According to experts this means about 15 lakh litres of used oil are converted into bio-diesel for running the trucks fleet, thereby reducing over 4000 MT of carbon emissions. This is equal to planning about 200,000 trees.
