If you want an extraordinary life, it is essential that you have an equally extraordinary routine. Your morning sets the tone for the rest of the day. Inculcate the following list of habits in your morning routine and see your life changing for the better!
Wake up earlier
You snooze, you lose! Jumping out of bed, rushing out of home and walking into office looking barely alive are things you should definitely break-up with. Apart from the fact that a routine like this is eating your productivity, it’s also stopping you from getting in touch with yourself. You need to create the right headspace before you step out to face the world. The only way to do that is by making extra time in morning. This is why it is essential that you wake up earlier. If you are trying to convert yourself into a morning person, do not make any drastic changes. Start slow! Unless you start waking up earlier, you won’t be able to adopt an effective morning routine since this pretty much acts as a foundation for other things.
Have a glass of warm lemon water
It is important to start the flow of water again once you have woken up from your morning slumber of roughly 7-8 hours. And what better way to do that than by drinking a glass of warm lemon water which has several benefits. It helps kickstart the digestion process and is also a great weight loss remedy.
Although I have always been an early riser, I have never been a fan of working out in morning. I used to follow a 5-7 minute stretching routine and 30 minute slow walk but nothing more than that. Well, that changed when I took up a job. I started having too many excuses for not exercising well in the evening once I returned home from work. Now, exercise is a regular part of my a.m. routine. If you too find yourself stuck in the same situation, it’s best to keep a proper work out session scheduled for morning. To ensure that you don’t look out for excuses to skip it, indulge in an exercise which you enjoy. For me, it’s dance. It’s more than just a physical activity! Even 15 minutes of your favourite exercise is enough to wake up your muscles and help you feel invigorated.
Writing has been one of the most positive practices of my entire life. I write when I am happy and I write even more when I am not. It helps me bring form to the cluttered thoughts in my mind. It helps me gain clarity and get to know about things I otherwise can’t get when I am going through a difficult phase. You need not be a writer to reap benefits from this therapeutic exercise. All you need is a pen, paper and solitude.
Now is the ideal time to clear your mind and begin with meditation. There’s no hard and fast rule on how to do it. You need to choose a position you are comfortable with and decide if you want to do it with a song or without it. Remember that you don’t have to spend an eternity on it. When I first started meditating 6 months back, I could hardly sit for even 5 minutes. But I have to admit that just sitting in silence made me feel very positive. Today, I meditate for 15-20 minutes and I have seen a noticeable improvement in my daily life because of it.
Write down your important tasks
This is one amazing time management trick. Write down three important tasks which you want to accomplish on that day. This will help you prioritize your work and also make you realize what matters the most. You will also be able to evaluate your day much better.
