PVR Cinemas and Samsung have announced the unveiling of India’s foremost Onyx Cinema LED screen at PVR Icon in the upmarket Vasant Kunj locality in Delhi. Moviegoers can now enjoy an enhanced movie viewing experience with Samsung’s technology nullifying the requirement of projection-based systems. This technology is similar to the one employed in television screens meant for home viewing. This means that the cinema hall needn’t be dark during screening time. Other features of this latest innovation from Samsung are truer blacks, HDR support and enhanced 3D experience. Furthermore, every Onyx Cinema LED screen have audio solutions by JBL, which Samsung acquired as part of its Harman Global acquisition.

With this new technology, the server directly feeds into the screen and the need for a projector is eliminated.

Also, as mentioned earlier, the Samsung Onyx Cinema LED screen is not affected by ambient lighting with the cinema hall being well lit even during movie screening. PVR can bank on this technology by organising special events and screenings for children where the hall needs to be well lighted.

Sanjeev Bijli, Joint Managing Director, PVR Ltd states ” This screen has a lot of versatility to offer and we believe these screens would help us garner more revenue.”
