The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) performance indicator shows that consumer wireless spends have fallen by 33% since Reliance Jio’s Launch. The launch is a bonanza for customers but a nightmare for the sector as each company is burning high volumes of money with revenues barely able to meet capital expenditure. Lower revenues in the sector makes it difficult for Indian government for a higher collection amount. An analyst from Kotak Institutional Equities said, “It is a new low in what was already a global-low ratio, and far below underlying spend potential”.
