What Is Rutor?
Rutor contains hydroxychloroquine as it’s active ingredient. Hydroxychloroquine is a quinoline medicine used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites that enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Hydroxychloroquine is also an antirheumatic medicine and is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus.

How Does Rutor Work?
It works as an antimalarial by blocking the growth of the malaria parasite.
It is also used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases like Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus by blocking the release of chemical substances that cause inflammation.

How to Take Rutor?
Rutor tablet is meant to be taken orally, preferably with meal or a glass of milk.
Common Dosage Of Rutor
For treating malaria :
Common adult dosage is 400 mg (310 mg base) once weekly on the same day of each week starting 2 weeks prior to exposure, and continued for 4 weeks after leaving the endemic area.
For treating lupuserythematosus :
Common adult dosage is 200 to 400 mg (155 to 310 mg base) daily, administered as a single daily dose or in two divided doses. Doses above 400 mg a day are not recommended.
For treatment of rheumatoidarthritis :
Common adult dosage is 400 mg to 600 mg (310 to 465 mg base) daily, administered as a single daily dose or in two divided doses. In a small percentage of patients, side effects may require temporary reduction of the initial dosage.
The adult maintenancedosage when a good response is obtained, may be reduced by 50 percent and continued at a maintenance level of 200 mg to 400 mg (155 to 310 mg base) daily, administered as a single daily dose or in two divided doses.

When to Avoid Rutor & Precautions To Take?
Use with caution in patients with a history of eye defects, impaired liver or kidney functions, blood disorder and psoriasis.
Use with caution in patients with heart diseases due to the increase in the risk of irregular heartbeats.

What happens if I overdose on Rutor?
in accidental over dosage, or rarely with lower doses in hypersensitive patients, toxic symptoms may occur within 30 minutes. The symptoms of over dosage may include headache, drowsiness, visual disturbances, cardiovascular collapse, convulsions, hypokalemia, rhythm and conduction disorders including QT prolongation, torsade de pointe, ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation, followed by sudden potentially fatal respiratory and cardiac arrest. Immediate medical attention is required, as these effects may appear shortly after the overdose.
What happens if I eat expired Rutor?
No major side effect is seen upon consumption of a single dose of expired medicine. However, if you notice any severe side effects, immediately inform your doctor.
