The state has been asked to give a detailed report on e-commerce firm’s compliance with declaration norms. With effect from January 1, 2018, all the e-commerce companies have been instructed to mention certain other important details like Country of Origin, Best Before use date, Consumer Care Details, Net Quantity, Name of the Manufacturer and Importer etc. apart from MRP of the product that is being mentioned on the packaged goods. These norms have been set up according to the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Amendment Rules 2017 that have to be complied for all the packaged goods except for Medicines. While companies like Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal have been complying with the norms, the violation of said norms will lead to penalty of Rs.25000, Rs.50000 for the first and second time respectively and might go up to Rs.1 Lakh or imprisonment or both from third time onwards as stated in section 36 of the Legal Metrology Amendment Rules 2017.
