15. Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula

Laxman Jhula is a suspension bridge that connects Their and Pauri districts of Uttarakhand. This bridge has an intriguing history that dates back to the Ramayana times. It is said that Laxmana crossed river Ganga at the same spot over a jute bridge. After centuries, a 284ft. bridge was constructed at the same spot and when it washed away with the floods of 1924, a suspension bridge was constructed here. Ram Jhula is another bridge which gives a beautiful view of the city.

14. Neelkanth Mahadev Temple

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple is situated at a height of 1330 meters. It is surrounded by dense forests and is adjacent to the Nar-Narayan mountain range. According to mythology, this is the same spot where Lord Shiva drank the venom generated after the churning of oceans by asuras and devas.

13. Swarg Ashram

For all yoga and medidation lovers, this place is the epicenter for these activities. It is located in a sleepy town near Shivalik hills, equipped with lodging facilities. The ashram also educates people on religion and culture to the visitors and can be visited by paying an entrance fee.

12. The Beatles Ashram

In 1968, the Beatles flew down to meet a saint called Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and practice meditation under him. This ashram got popular by the name – The Beatles Ashram since then. The ashram was however abandoned in 1997 but it still is a popular tourist spot. This ashram is also said to reopen as a museum.

11. Parmarth Niketan Ashram

Located on the banks of the river Ganga, this is the largest ashram in Rishikesh. This serene place has over 1000 rooms for devotees that visit from all around the world. Daily activities of the ashram include yoga, meditation, spiritual classes, kirtan, Ganga aarti and satsang.

10. Triveni Ghat

Triveni Ghat is the confluence point of rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. It is one of the most sacred ghats to visit as it is said that taking a dip with utmost devotion purifies one’s heart and soul. In the morning devotees offer milk to the river and perform Surya Namaskar, in the vening, the place lights up with the Maha aarti.

9. Rishi Kund

Located only a few minutes from Triveni Ghat, Rishi Kund or the Pond of the Sages has hot water springs where you can relax. The Raghunath Temple, located to Lord Ram and Sita, is just beside it. It is said that Lord Ram used to bathe in this pool during his exile and in ancient times, sages used to wash themselves here before offering their prayers.

8. Neer Garh Waterfall

Neer Gaddu waterfall is a true beauty with gorgeous cascades and a tranquil surrounding. Nature lovers can even take a walk uphill to enjoy the beauty of this place.

7. Vashisth Gufa

This is an ancient cave where sage Vashisth and his wife meditated for many years. According to mythology, Sage Vashisth was the son of Lord Brahma and one of the Saptarishi (great seven sages). A flight of 200 steps take you to the cave and you can also visit Swami Purushottamanand ashram nearby.

6. Piran Kaliyar Sharif

Piran Kaliyar Sharif is a dargah, resting place for the Sufi saint Alauddin Ali Ahmed Sabir. It is located in Kaliyari village near Haridwar and attracts Hindu and Muslim visitors both.

5. Narendra Nagar

Narendra Nagar is located in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. The royal palace of Maharaja Narendra Shah is located amidst alpine forests in this town which came into existence in 1919. Ananda Spa, which is a very popular spa is also located here.

4. Kunjapuri Temple

This temple is dedicated to goddess Sati and it is said that her chest had fallen here while Lord Shiva carried her remains to Kailash. The Kunjapuri temple attracts a lot of visitors during Navratri and Dusshera when grand celebrations are held. It is also a trekkers delight and offers delightful views of Gangotri, Swarga Rohini, Chaukhamba and Banderpunch peaks.

2. Kaudiyala

Kaudiyala is a beautiful village from where you can start your rafting expedition that takes about 8 hours. 1. Rajaji National Park

Rajaji National Park encompasses the Shivaliks and was merged with Chilla and Motichur Wildlife Sanctuaries in 1983. It is also a tiger reserve and is home to several species of birds and animals. A jungle safari here is a must. The park is named after C. Rajagopalachari who was a prominent leader of the Freedom Struggle also the second and last Governor-General of independent India.
