2016 has been a lukewarm year for Indian cinema. Along with trailblazers such as Dangal, Airlift and Pink, there were also more than a few serious downers like Befikre, Kya Kool Hain Hum 3, Mastizaade, Fitoor, Loveshuda, Ki & Ka and the list goes on.

As we step into the New Year, we look up to Indian cinema with renewed hopes and it looks like we’re in for a pleasant surprise. Here are some upcoming films we’re very excited about:

Raees

Shahrukh Khan plays a bootlegger with a heart of gold, Mahira Khan plays his wife and Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays his archenemy. We’ve been waiting for this one since the teaser came out about a year ago.

Kaabil will have Hrithik Roshan playing another challenging role, that of blind individual seeking vengeance. With Yami Gautam playing his also blind lover, Kaabil is shaping up to be a tragic, dramatic love story.

Haramkhor

Gem of an actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays a teacher who becomes the object of attraction of a student played by Shweta Tripathi of the Masaan fame. Expect some seriously flawless acting and a controversial storyline.

Jolly LLB 2

The franchise dropped Arshad Warsi who was the main attraction first time around, but replaced him with the unmistakably hilarious Akshay Kumar. The courtroom comedy might just be better than its predecessor.

Trapped

In this beguiling survival thriller, Rajkummar Rao gets trapped in a room for 25 days with no escape route. The film earned laurels at the Mumbai International Film Festival in 2016 and we have high hopes.

Jagga Jasoos

The long-awaited flick starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif recently gave us a sneak-peek through a mostly silent yet endearing trailer. Kapoor plays a Tintin-esque detective while Kaif plays his sidekick.

Tubelight
