This national museum is inside 18th century Wang Na Palace and close to Grand Palace. 9. Jim Thompson House

This property initially served as a residence of Jim Thomson, an American man. The house is located on the banks of Saen Saeb Canal. The Jim Thomson house has now converted into a museum featuring items like a sandstone Buddha idol, a couple of Chinese mah-jong tables.

8. Giant Swing

The striking Giant swing with a height of 21.15 meters is located in the bustling square nestled between Wat Suthat and Bangkok City Hall. The swing was replaced in 2004 and is now adorned with a golden teak frame. The swing now serves as a center of holy rituals annually after the rice harvest. In the past, A Brahmin thanksgiving ceremony used to be celebrated every year post the main rice harvest. In this ceremony, young men would ride the swing and get suspended about 24 meters from the ground level when in full swing. At this juncture, they would try to get hold of a bag of silver coins with their teeth. However, the ceremony was discontinued in 1932 owing to severe injuries and even some deaths.

7. Wat Suthat

This enchanting temple is a fine example of outstanding architecture. This is Bangkok’s oldest temple whose foundation was laid by king Rama I in year 1782. A 14th century Sukhothai-period bronze cast, an 8-meter figurine of Phra Si Sakayamuni, is also housed in the temple. Ashes of king Rama VIII are placed at the base of the idol. 6. Wat Traimit

2. Wat Pho
