We spoke to Ankur Warikoo, CEO and Co-Founder of the Sequoia-backed company, about the rebranding and future of Nearbuy, and a bit about his life and likes. Here’s what the dynamic entrepreneur, who has been featured twice in the Fortune 40 under 40 list, had to say to CashKaro.
CashKaro: Nearbuy has so many great deals. What are some of your favorites, maybe out of experience?
Ankur Warikoo: I love Nearbuy not just because I founded it but I believe it’s an incredible product. I have never gone out to eat without checking Nearbuy first. CashKaro: Where can one bump into Ankur Warikoo on a weekend?
Ankur: Most likely Select CityWalk Mall in Delhi, watching a movie or eating out with my wife, Ruchi or just kicking it at home flying paper planes with my son, Vidur.
CashKaro: In 2015, you decided to rebrand from Groupon to Nearbuy. How has the transition been & how are you as an entrepreneur scripting the new path for the brand?
Ankur: The journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Numbers speak the story:
We have more than 2 million consumers who have already transacted on the platform. 3 million app downloads. Grown from 10 cities to 33 cities in 6 months. Featured 50k merchants last year across 108,000 unique locations. Close to 600,000+ footfalls generated per month in merchant outlets. 1.6 Million Monthly active users across mobile and web, and 500%+ growth in business since Groupon became Nearbuy.
CashKaro: How are affiliate sites like CashKaro helping you achieve the overall marketing objective?
Ankur: The main goal of marketing is to acquire customers at a low cost and scale at the same time. Since these networks are performance based, they help us reach new consumers and CashKaro is conclusively our best performing affiliate network. CashKaro: Lastly, how was 2016 overall and any 2017 resolutions you can share?
Ankur: 2016 has been my favorite year. So many exciting things happened and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s in store in the coming year. We launched a patented app for merchants, changed the app user interface for customers and grew the business by 500%
2017’s work resolution is for Nearbuy to become everyone’s go to platform when they step out to eat, get a spa, watch movies, get a haircut or even travel.
