Uses of Urimax

Urimax is used for the treatment of symptoms caused by prostate enlargement in men.


How does Urimax work?

Urimax contains Tamsulosin as its chief ingredient. It is an alpha blocker that causes relaxation of blood vessels (veins and arteries), thereby increasing the blood flow through them. It also causes muscle relaxation in the prostate and neck of the bladder, making it easier to pass urine.


How to Take Urimax ?

  • The dosage and duration of Urimax advised is based on your age, physical health, severity of condition and initial response to therapy.
  • For ideal results, it should always be taken after breakfast in the morning.
  • The capsule should be swallowed as a whole without crushing, chewing or breaking it along with plenty of fluids.
  • Urimax should not be stopped in between without doctor’s consent and before the course of the therapy is not completed.
  • Urimax should not be used as an over the counter drug. It is recommended to use this medicine under proper guidance.

Common Dosage for Urimax

The drug dosage is decided by the physician based upon:

  • Health status/medical condition of the patient
  • Severity of symptoms
  • Reaction to the first dose
  • History of allergy/drug reactions
  • Dosage should initially be limited to smallest effective amount to decrease the severity of side effects. The dose can later be increased to get the best results.
  • Urimax capsules 0.4 mg once daily is recommended as the dose for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of Benign Prostate Hyperplasia.
  • Thereafter the dose may be gradually increased to 0.8mg daily.
  • Do not change your dose or stop taking your medicine suddenly without your doctor’s consent.
  • In case of non-improvement of symptoms or symptoms getting worse, consult your doctor immediately.

Q. What happens if I overdose on Urimax?

Urimax should not be administered in more than prescribed dose. Taking increased dose will not improve your symptoms earlier; rather it may cause serious side-effects. Signs of over dosage include: drowsiness, dizziness and fainting. In case of over dosage, consult your doctor immediately.

Q. What happens if I miss a dose of Urimax?

The potency of the medicine may decrease because for effective working of the drug, a certain amount of drug must be present in your body at all times. Always consume the missed dose as soon as you remember. But, if it’s already time for the next dose – do not double the dose.

  • History of orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure when getting up from a sitting or lying position)
  • Patients with low blood pressure

  • Eye problems – cataract, glaucoma
  • Patients with kidney problems – difficulty in passing urine
  • A blockage in digestive tract (stomach or intestines)
  • Severe constipation
  • Liver disease
