Hulhumale is a mesmerizing island situated to the south of the North Male Atoll. It has a strict no-littering policy and supports green architecture. The island is an amazing amalgamation of urban and island cultures, and spans across 188 hectares. Be sure to visit this island and be awestruck with nature at its best.

10. Old Friday Mosque

Built in 1656, within an intricate coral structure, this is the oldest mosque in Maldives. The interiors are ornate with lacquer work and woodcarvings. The mosque was originally built on the foundation of an old temple. Non-Muslims wishing to visit the mosque require special permission from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.

9. Utheemu Ganduvaru

Utheemu Ganduvaru is a small island in Northern Maldives. It was the birthplace of Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu, a Maldivian hero who chased away Portugese invaders in 1573. The home of Sultan Mohamed is a much frequented heritage site. Inside the palace are charming swing beds, palm oil lamps and 500-year-old wooden interiors.

8. Kuredu

This isle is located on the the Lhaviyani Atoll of Maldives. The entire island is covered by a resort which has bamboo shacks and over-water bungalows. Being surrounded by water, the resort is prone to high waves and strong currents.  The is isle is the best snorkelling and scuba destination in Maldives.

7. National Museum

The National Museum of Maldives is situated in Sultan Park in Male. It attracts people from around the world owing to its ancient collection of coins, royal antiques, clothing, embellishments, armaments and other artefacts of the Maldivian culture.

6. Banana Reef

This island gets its name from its banana-esque shape when viewed from above. It is the first licensed diving and scuba site in Maldives. The reef is replete with marine life, corals, cliffs, caves and overhangs. It is also famous for other activities including snorkelling and jet skiing.

5. HP Reef

4. Maafushi

3. Muliaage

This is the official residence of the President of Maldives. The house is located in Male, near the famous Friday Mosque. This spectacular home has been home to 4 Maldivian presidents since it was built in 1919. The home, however is closed to outsiders and can only be gazed at from afar.

2. China-Maldives Friendship Bridge

This bridge is a magnificent piece of engineering connecting Male to Hulhule which is an airport city. It is a 1.39 km long bridge with concrete supports fixed inside the seabed. It is a US $210 million project out of which US $126 million will be contributed by China. The massive bridge is still under construction and will open to commuters in August 2019.
