Instagram is one of the most happening social media portals active on the Internet. It is a platform where people gain popularity by simply posting random pictures of intrigue. And much more than that, Insta is a platform for celebrities to engage with fans and build popularity.
But hey! One error and you are all set to a river of comments and self-acclaimed critics approaching your way. Here are some of the celebrity slams that blew the Internet this year.
#1 Farrah Abraham
Starring in lead roles on MTV’s hit shows, Farrah Abraham seems to be making headlines since March for not-so-great reasons. From photoshopping a nude Instagram post to endorsing an anti-ageing product, she seems to be shooting herself in the foot one after the other. Well this April, she took to Instagram to post a video of herself in a bikini, as she talks about a fitness move that she’s enacting along with her friend.
The teen mom icon received a storm of negative comments on the post for using ‘false advertisement strategy’, considering the range of paid surgeries she’s gone through to attain that look. Wishing you a happy 2020, babe!
#2 Kim Kardashian
Who knew spreading those Sunday service vibes will turn into a hailstorm for Kim K? While the reality TV star boasts 135 million followers on Instagram, she received immense criticism from the community following her recent post this April. The piece displayed the star heading to a church, decked up in a flowing white dress and accessorized with a golden Maang Tikka. Since she wore a piece of jewellery that is typically reserved for Indian festivities, especially weddings, she could not just get away with the criticism coming through.
Apart from inviting comments explaining the literal significance of Maang Tikka, she got backlashed for her appropriation of Indian culture. Her followers even brought up the 2012 Keeping Up With The Kardashians episode that saw Kim say, ‘Indian food is disgusting’ after she tasted curry.
#3 Janhvi Kapoor
Acing the B-town game well, Janhvi Kapoor could not remain untouched by trolls and comments this April when she was caught repeating her outfit. Spotted outside Mumbai International Airport, the debutant Dhadak actress plucked the attention of shutterbugs who were quick enough to notice the ‘fashion faux pas’.
However, reinventing the so-called rules, the budding actress defended her choice to repeat a look. She hit back the trolls saying ‘Itna Bhi Paisa Nahi Kamaya Ki Har Roz Naye Kapde!’ Well, we have to say- We are proud of you, Ms. Kapoor!
#4 Sabyasachi Mukherjee
The renowned designer, Sabyasachi Mukherjee occupied our news feed for the marketing gimmick pulled by his brand on International Women’s Day. As he took to his Instagram to celebrate the day, he received a backlash for stereotyping a plus-size model to send out the message of ‘self-confidence’.
The campaign did not go as planned and the brand was called out for its ignorance of gender issues for the rest of the year.
#5 Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya
If you have Diet Sabya as one of your followers, there is a 105% probability that you will be called out soon. And that’s what happened to the popular TV star, Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya. Quick to be spotted and ruffled by Diet Sabya, the ‘Yeh Hain Mohabbatein’ star was accused of plagiarizing one of the Bengal Tiger belts from Sabyasachi’s signature collection. ‘#Guts On a Sunday Afternoon’ said the humiliating post on Diet Sabya’s Insta feed.
However, Divyanka did not keep mum about the incident and quoted her act as a ‘genuine ignorance’, while slyly terming the opposing page community as ‘inhuman and harsh’.
