For selection into an undergraduate engineering program/institute, the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) is conducted and is considered as one of the toughest entrance exams in the stream of engineering.
In the year 2012, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) replaced the AIEEE and IIT-JEE with the JEE which is now divided in two parts- the JEE Mains and JEE Advanced.
JEE Main is for admission into the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IITs), National Institute of Technology (NITs), Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) and other government-funded technical institutes.
Students who are selected in the JEE Mains are eligible for appearing for JEE Advanced whose score is acceptible in the IIT's and the Indian School of Mines in Dhanbad.
