About Indore

Indore is the largest and most populous city of Madhya Pradesh. It is popular for its monuments, history, food and trendy market places. The city was founded by Rao Nandlal Chaudhary and he named it ‘Indrapur’ after Lord ‘Indra’, the presiding deity of a famous temple in Indore.

Trivia: During the Maratha empire, the city was named ‘Indur’. It was earlier the capital city of ‘Holkars’.

8. Krishna Pura Chhatri

It was the cremation place for the Holkars. It houses beautiful carvings on the structures and there are some temples that surrounds the chhatris. It gives you a glimpse of the marvelous era of Holkar dynasty.

7. Rajwada

Rajwada is a historical palace that was constructed by the Holkar dynasty in the year 1747 A.D. The palace has seven stories which is an excellent example of royal grandeur and magnificent architectural skills of those times. It consists of a well-maintained garden that has a statue of Queen Ahilya Bai. It also houses some beautiful fountains and artificial waterfalls.

1. Lal Bagh Palace

Lal Bagh Palace was resided by the rulers of Holkar Dynasty. Its construction was started by Tukoji Rao Holkar in 1886 and was completed 35 years later in 1921 by his successors.
