Published by Living Media India Limited, India Today is a weekly news magazine based in New Delhi. The publication celebrated its 30th anniversary with its issue in December 2005. It has published five editions since its inception. Launched during the times of emergency as an investigative journal, it eventually became a platform that provided news and current affairs for residents all over the world.
About the Editor
India Today was established by Vidya Vilas Puri, owner of Thompson Press, along with Madhu Trehan. Aroon Purie is the magazine’s editor-in-chief and he very recently appointed his daughter Kallie Purie to handle operations.
Aroon was awarded with the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award of the government of India for his immense contribution to Indian journalism. Other awards he has been honored with are the B.D. Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism in 1988, the Journalist of the Year award 1990 by the Indian Federation of Small and Medium Newspapers, Award for Lifetime achievement from www.Indiatelevision.com (2008), etc.
Fun Fact: The India Today Controversy
Aroon Purie’s 400 words editorial published in October 2010 ignited a plagiarism controversy. CounterMedia, a media watchdog found the first 250 words identical to an article by Grady Hendrix published in September 2010. An apology for the mistake encouraged a satisfactory closure to the matter.
